An "Ox" is simply a cow or bull that has been trained to pull farm implements and wagons, or as Wikipedia says "an ox is nothing more than a mature bovine with an 'education'."
This is the original ox reverse and was minted in 1966 only. After Gambia switched to decimal currency in 1971, the same ox appeared on the 50-butut coins.
