The Slender-snouted crocodile may already be extinct in The Gambia, and its population is declining rapidly in other countries in west and central Africa. Because its natural habitat is remote and inaccessible, little is known of this species. Their main diet is fish, along with small birds, frogs, crabs, and shrimp. Their life span in the wild is 50+ years, and apparently their call sounds like a truck exhaust backfiring.
This heptagon coin was issued two years only: 1987 (KM29 with a different obverse), and this example in 1998.
All coin images in Daniel's Coin Zoo are from my personal collection. I collect, research, and personally photograph every coin displayed on this site. PLEASE do not take my images without permission. If you would like to use any coin image you see, just ask me. Thank you.
