The Southern ground hornbill (aka Bucorvus leadbeateri) is the largest species of hornbill, growing up to 129 cm long. Their big size and big voices made them a focal point in many traditional African cultures, leading to taboos on hunting them. Now, mostly due to habitat loss and slow breeding, they are vulnerable to extinction.
