The Zebu are sometimes called 'humped cattle' and there are about 75 breeds in Africa and South Asia. They are well adapted to hot climates.
The Zebu 25-thebe coin was first issued in 1976 and was replaced by a smaller 7-sided (heptagon) version in 1998. Then, in 2013 it grew by 10% to this 22 mm version when all seven circulating coins were replaced by new larger versions. Seven new fauna coins makes the Zoo Keeper happy, but probably makes the people who operate vending machines in Botswana sad.
All coin images in Daniel's Coin Zoo are from my personal collection. I collect, research, and personally photograph every coin displayed on this site. PLEASE do not take my images without permission. If you would like to use any coin image you see, just ask me. Thank you.
