USA 25-CENTS (2020)

Regal fritillary

In 2010, the US Mint launched the "America the Beautiful" quarters program. Five quarters will be issued each year through 2020 (and one in 2021), for a total of 56 different designs. Each quarter will depict a national park or site from each of the 50 states, the federal district, and each territory). The Kansas coin features Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve, an 11,000 acre preserve. It is the largest remaining tallgrass prairie ecosystem in North America.

The butterfly is a Regal fritillary, which is threatened due to the loss of 99% of the tallgrass prairie habitat.
