Kazakhstan 10-TENGE (KM10)

Mythical Bird (Rooster)

The stylized animals on this series of Kazakhstan coins is based on Scythian (Saka) figurines found during excavations of burial mounds.

Here is the Kazakh National Bank's explanation for this image:

"Bird" is the common mankind symbol of sky and sun. Cock, which is often used in decoration of Pazaryk harness from Europe to China, from the great antiquity guards people against evil spirits, misfortune and chaos. By determination of scientist L.Y. Shtenberg it is "prophet of daybreak".

So, that's like a magic rooster. With two heads. A very old, very cool rooster.
