Located at the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea, the Lebanese Republic sits at a crossroads of ancient civilizations resulting in a rich history and ethnic diversity. Evidence of civilization dates back over 7,000 years in the city of Byblos, considered to be one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world.
The national symbol of Lebanon is the cedar tree, which covered the country in great forests in ancient times. Today, only small isolated pockets remain.
