Norway 1-KRONE (KM462) Bird

The Norwegian Krone was holed from 1925-1951, then again starting in 1997 with this new coin.

The bird on a branch is based on the carvings from the portal of Hylestad Stave Church. The church was built in Setesdal in the late 12th/early 13th century, and demolished in the 17th century. The portal carvings are now in a museum in Oslo.

These carvings tell the legend of a dragon slayer, but all we got on the coin was a tame bird.
