In 2010, the US Mint launched the "America the Beautiful" quarters program. Five quarters will be issued each year through 2020 (and one in 2021), for a total of 56 different designs. Each quarter will depict a national park or site from each of the 50 states, the federal district, and each territory).
Louisiana's coin features Kisatchie National Forest with a Wild turkey in flight. I have seen a herd of these birds launch and fly like a bowling ball launched from a cannon. However, they are apparently very agile flyers covering up to 400 m at a time beneath the forest canopy, very close to the ground.
All coin images in Daniel's Coin Zoo are from my personal collection. I collect, research, and personally photograph every coin displayed on this site. PLEASE do not take my images without permission. If you would like to use any coin image you see, just ask me. Thank you.
