Nigeria ½-KOBO (KM7)

Horses + Eagle

Nigeria adopted the 'naira' as their new currency in 1973. There are 100 kobo to the naira, making this first coin of the new currency a very small denomination. It was minted one year only in 1973, and with over 166 million issued it was clearly intended for circulation at the time.

The obverse of all of Nigeria's modern coins (1973-date) feature the coat of arms. The two horses represent dignity and the eagle represents strength.
