Ireland FARTHING (KM9) Woodcock

The Irish 'Barnyard Series' of coins features animals that were very important to Ireland's mainly agricultural economy.

The farthing features the Woodcock, a small bird that was an important game bird that could provide a meal to poor agricultural labourers. This design appeared on the first coinage of the Irish Free State in 1928 (KM1), and was carried over with a modified obverse on this issue from 1939 to 1966.
