Copper masheer

Nepal is a land-locked country, but fish are a very important food source. The Copper masheer (Neolissochilus hexagonolepis) is a carp, and one of the most important cold-water fish in the country. They grow over 60 cm in length and up to 11 kg in weight. Unfortunately they are classified as Near Threatened and their population is declining.

This FAO World Food Day coin is dated 2043 on the Nepalese calendar, which is equivalent to 1986. It was issued one year only.
