Georgia 2-TETRI (KM77) Peacock

Georgia's first coinage as an independent state after the fall of the USSR reflects the country's 3,000 year history. This 2-thetri coin depicts a peacock with wings spread (but no fanned tail). The peacock is an ancient symbol representing Christ and the resurrection. Christianity in Georgia traces back to 317 CE, when the Georgian Kingdom of Colchis became one of the first nations in the region to adopt the new religion.

This coin was minted in 1993 only.
