Hong Kong
Founded as a British colony in 1842, Hong Kong's sovereignty was transferred to the People's Republic of China in July 1997. Today, it is officially known as Hong Kong Special Administative Region of the People's Republic of China, or Hong Kong SAR.
Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated areas on earth, with over 7 million people living in about 1,100 square kilometers. It is a world city, and the third most important financial centre (after London and New York).
