San Marino 1-LIRA (KM30) Ant

San Marino's 1974 lira coin features an ant. The coins issued in 1975 also feature a pair of ants on the obverse, along the bottom on either side of the date. Obviously there is some significance to this ant invasion on the coins, but I have no idea what it is.

Meanwhile, Antwiki lists two species of ants in San Marino. So there's that.
