Seychelles 10-CENTS (KM23)

Sailfish

Sailfish grow very fast, reaching up to 1.5 m in length within one year. There are nominally two species of sailfish, however, since there are no differences in form, quantitative features, or mitochondrial DNA, most experts now say they are the same species.

While the semi-industrial fishing industry in Seychelles relies mostly on tuna and swordfish, sailfish are also a staple catch.

This coin was issued in 1976 only to celebrate Seychelles' declaration of independence.
