Mozambique 5-METICAIS (KM116) Kingfisher

There are 93 species of Kingfisher in the world, and ten of them are found in Mozambique. The fellow on this coin could represent any of them, or all of them (except the Giant Kingfisher and Pied Kingfisher, who both have distinctive head feathers not seen on this coin).

Mozambique's currency was changed from Escudos (as a Portuguese colony) to the Metica in 1975 when the republic was formed. The first monetary reform came in 1980, and the unit of currency was changed to the "Metical" (plural Meticais).
