Malawi 1-TAMBALA (KM7.1) Rooster

Malawi switched to decimal coinage in 1971 (100 Tambala = 1 Kwacha). The rooster is the symbol of the Malawi Congress Party and appeared on Malawi coins for the 30 years of their rule, starting in 1964 with the 6-pence coin.

Other than composition, this coin remained unchanged for 23 years (1971-1994).
